1988. Bathurst Easter Motor Cycle Races were celebrating 50 years of racing at Mt Panorama. With a special invitation race on the programme, I was offered a ride on the ex-Pitmans Yamaha TZ750F built by Mal Pitman for Greg Pretty, and later raced by Michael Dowson. The bike was fast and handled very well, as expected, I put in some respectful lap times during the training sessions which I was happy with.
I was first off the line and into Murray’s Corner, up mountain straight notched 4th gear going over the hump and on the back wheel up to the next braking marker. Continuing up the mountain across McPhillamy park over skyline and down through the dipper, then on to Conrod Straight watching the tacho avoiding to rev it past 10,500rpm. By lap 3 I had a convincing lead which I kept to the finish line.
