I first met Brian Hindle at Oran Park in 1973 before the start of the 250cc Improved Touring Race. He struck me as a true sportsman and gentleman, we chatted as if we were old friends. I was impressed that he being one of the top riders in the country would stop and give me the time of day. Then every race meeting that he raced at he would stop and say "hi" and chat and offer some friendly advice. Looking back I think he felt that I was very serious about my racing, and that I may have what it takes to be good at it. I was deeply moved and saddened when I heard the news of his death. Brian was fatally injured in an ultralight crash while preparing for an air show.
